This area for 'ANNUAL EVENTS LIST'
This exhibition is intended to replace our previously very popular Indian Summer Art Show. The subject matter of the entries does NOT need to reflect the title in any way.
It will run from July 2 to July 8 2012 at Lansdowne Centre, in the center area next to the busy food court. Deadline for entries is June 1, 2012.
This is a juried exhibition open to all artists working in 2D medium including photography. We will accept up to 3 entries per artist. Special attention must be paid to the allowable sizes of accepted work, the drop off and pick up information and the deadline for entry.
This event, held for Richmond youth ages 10 - 15, asked them to create from re-cycled, re-purposed or re-used materials a contemporary sculpture and explain the materials used and their thinking behind the choice of their subject matter.
As each of us try to get to zero waste, it is important to see what the youth is doing towards this end. The winners in the two categories (Junior and Senior) we be decided during the exhibition and appropriate signage will be displayed showing the winners.
So take some out of your day during spring break and come and see what the youth of today has created!
Culture Days
Culture days is a cross Canada grass roots movement to raise awareness of the arts by the participation and engagement of the public in various activities and events produced by art and culture groups and individuals.
While still in its baby stage, this pan Canada event grows each year and 2011 was the best yet! Virtually every community did its best to become involved, realizing that the arts play such a major role in everyday life, even if people don't know it.
Art crosses every type and kind of boundary and brings people together. It encourages dialogue and discussion whether for or against, it stirs the soul and lightens the spirit. Art can make a bad day good and a good day even better.
No matter what the discipline, no matter what the preference, art in and of itself has the power to create good, to build community togetherness, to show that nothing is impossible! Art is powerful. Art is important and pleads to be shared, and that is what Culture Days is about.
This annual Culture Days event normally takes place the end of September/ beginning of October and while we do not yet have the date for 2012 at this time, keep checking back for an update. You can then mark the date on your calendar and watch your papers to find out what is happening where and take the time to attend one or two exhibitions and events.
Both your soul and your spirit will thank you.
The Community Arts Council of Richmond, with the help from the Fraser Valley Potters guild and other independent artists, took part in Culture Days this year. Culture Days is a cross Canada arts & culture event now in its second year.
Our event titled, "Experience the Arts",took place at Lansdowne Center on #3 road in Richmond. On Saturday October 1 from 9:30 - 6:00 and Sunday October 2 from 11: - 6:00. We were located in Kiosk Court which is at the entrance from #3 road. We are very thankful to Lansdowne Centre for the space they provided to us for the event.
