What We Do

Category: About the CACR

The Community Arts Council of Richmond prides itself on preserving and promoting the arts in our community. Since closing our Artisans' Galleria the end of June 2011, we no longer have a "home" base from which to operate and are in the process of restructuring.

We plan to continue with our mandate and to establish relationships with other art and culture groups who share the same goals as ourselves. As part of this restructuring we are updating our website and searching out new ways in which we can better serve both the artists and residents of Richmond.

The City of Richmond has a rich and vibrant arts and culture component and we feel it is our duty to do our very best to help to showcase the art and culture community to the public at large.

It may take a little while for us to find the most efficient manner to achieve our goals, but with support from our members and City, we feel confident that it will be worth the wait.

In previous years, in pursuit of our mission and mandate to support the arts, artists and artisans in our community, we have provided our members and the community with the following services:

Promoted artists through our Artisans' Galleria gift shop, including sale of juried work, special events and changing exhibitions.
Provided financial assistance through our grant program. (when funds available)
Provided publicity and promotional assistance to artists members.
Worked with other non-profit community groups, sharing information about upcoming events both locally and throughout the Province.
Promoted art as a way to bridge cultures and build a harmonious community.
Participated in many local community events held in Steveston village as a way to encourage the public to come forth and appreciate their local artists’ work.
The community had the benefit of viewing work in the Galleria at no cost.
Presented our exhibitions and shows at no cost to the viewing public.
Encouraged and supported both emerging and disabled artists.
When possible, assisted our artists members in exposure and sale of their work, such as the Steveston Farmer’s and Artisans’ Market.

As well, our website:

Featured different artists each month and provided a link to their own website.
Offered information to the public on behalf of our members events through our growing newsletter .
Kept members informed via email of events happening throughout the Province from other non-profit art groups.
