about us
who we are

We are a Federally and Provincially registered, not for profit charity, dedicated to promoting the arts and artisans in Richmond BC. We have been in existence for almost 40 years.

We hope you will take time to view all the pages on this site and that you find it interesting and informative. We are proud of our updated site and are continually striving to make it the best it can be.

On the following pages you will find information on our Artisans’ Galleria, our most highly visible project, located in the heart of Steveston BC. Here you will find the work of our artist members who offer a wonderful selection of hand touched pottery, wood work, textile art, jewellery, art and painted glass, metal sculpture, Raku, hand painted items and fabric, photography, paintings, cards, home décor, wall art and so much more. These one of kind pieces of art are always changing, rarely repeated, very individual and because we are non-profit, affordable!

The event page contains a listing of events past and present so you are able to view both annual and one-time events. A fillable down-loadable membership form is available as we welcome members from all areas of life not just artists. In fact, by becoming a member, you will help us support local artists and artisans as well as receive a discount on purchases at the Artisans’ Galleria and be notified well in advance of upcoming events. Definitely a good thing.

So please enjoy browsing through our site and if you have any questions or comments please go to the contact page and choose the manner in which you would like to communicate with us.

Overview

The Community Arts Council of Richmond has been a pivotal force in the advancement of arts and culture in Richmond since its formation as a non-profit organization in 1970.

Governed by a board of directors who share a commitment to fostering the arts and artists in the community, believing that promotion of the arts is a way to bridge cultures and build a harmonious community. (See “what we do for more information”)

Our valued members come from all walks of life whether individuals, families, community organizations or businesses, they all share the same goal of being advocates for the arts and artists, recognizing the value of arts by their various contributions.

For many years The CACR programmed and managed a wide variety of classes and programs at the art centre, including dance, theatre, visual arts and music. In July 2004 the CACR left the cultural centre and moved to the Steveston area of Richmond, joining forces with The Arts Connection, a privately operated visual and performing arts centre located on First Avenue in Steveston. They offer a wide variety of arts programming with an emphasis on children.

The Presents in the Park gift shop also moved to Historic Steveston Village, named The Courtyard Galleria (because it is in a courtyard) the larger premises offered a greater selection of juried work by local artists and changing exhibitions.

In March of 2008 we moved to our present location on Moncton Street and renamed our Gallery again to Artisans' Galleria. The new location is larger and easy to find, next to the Cannery Cafe in Steveston Village, Richmond, BC.
